A Knocked Out Tooth Can Sometimes Be Replaced With A Dental Bridge

When a tooth is knocked out by an accident or sports injury, the tooth might be viable for implantation back into the socket, if it’s kept alive and the tooth is whole. Unfortunately, many of these cases result in the tooth being severely fractured near the gumline.

If there isn’t sufficient healthy structure remaining in the dental socket to treat the tooth with a root canal, your dentist might recommend extracting whatever remains of the tooth from your periodontal tissues. Once your gums have been sutured, we will likely prescribe some pain medication. This will help minimize pain while your gums fully heal.

When you’re ready, Dr. Thi Hoang will help you understand the dental restorations available at Las Positas Family Dental. If you are averse to the oral surgery and prolonged timetable of a dental implant restoration, our team might recommend installing a dental bridge into the void.

This type of dental work is essentially two crowns fused together with a solid artificial tooth fused between them. This will mimics the knocked out tooth’s physical presence and function. The dental bridge will be mounted on a pair of abutments formed by the two closest neighboring teeth.

Once your dental bridge has been created in a dental lab, you will need to come in for the second appointment to install your dental bridge. This is a relatively brief session where Dr. Thi Hoang cements the dental bridge directly onto the abutments.
