Pearly White Teeth for You!
Over many years, teeth begin to yellow in color due to various factors such as food colorings, coffee and tea, fluorosis, normal wear of outer tooth layer, staining due to medication, and smoking. To correct discolored teeth, whitening is an exceptional option. Teeth whitening is a simple, non-abrasive procedure that changes the natural color of tooth enamel to a whiter, brighter smile.
There are many different options when whitening teeth such as toothpaste, mouth rinses, and whitening strips. Las Positas Family Dental specializes in ZOOM! Whitening, which is an in-office treatment that takes a total of about two hours. ZOOM! offers immediate results that a patient is able to see the difference of color in their smile as soon as they leave the office.
For teeth whitening to have the greatest effect, a cleaning is recommended beforehand to ensure the brightest smile. A cleaning will remove any residual plaque that may make it difficult for teeth to whiten.
ZOOM! normally requires two appointments. The first appointment consists of photos taken before whitening, impressions (or molds) of teeth to create take home whitening trays, then the actual whitening process. The second appointment is for delivery of whitening trays. The fit of the trays is then checked and adjusted accordingly. Whitening trays also include special whitening solution to be used for any touchups after the in-office whitening.
After a full ZOOM! procedure, patients may feel slight sensitivity, which may last for several days. Each patient may have different experiences with sensitivity, but it is also a good idea to take precautions to prevent as much sensitivity as possible. Our office may prescribe a Prevident fluoride toothpaste to protect and strengthen tooth enamel, which can reduce sensitivity.
Patients will receive post ZOOM! instructions on how to maintain their new bright and beautiful smile.
