Your Smile is Worthwhile!

Many patients consider orthodontic treatment to perfectly align their teeth in order to correct a crooked smile. Although, many patients opt out of receiving treatment due to the aesthetics of metal braces. Metal braces can be discouraging and may be seen as unattractive, especially for adults. Invisalign® offers an alternative to traditional braces by providing an invisible aligning system that straightens teeth quickly without the metal.

Invisalign® treatment consists of custom made alignment trays. These trays are changed after two weeks and upgraded to new trays that get the teeth straighter each time. In addition to visual impact, Invisalign® trays are able to be removed at any time or for important occasions. This treatment is patient controlled, which means it is the patient’s responsibility to stay on track of routine wear.

A treatment plan is devised to create a blueprint of how teeth will be moving over time. A 3D simulation is presented to the patient which shows the changes that the teeth will be undergoing. Once planning is complete, a set of unique aligners are made and given to patients several weeks at a time. Each case varies in length, but a typical set includes 20-29 sets, which is about 10 months on average.

Can Invisalign® correct different types of bite problems?

Yes, Invisalign® has the ability to correct the same dental problems much like traditional metal braces. Common bite problems that can be fixed with Invisalign® include:

  • Overcrowding: This occurs when there is not enough needed space for teeth to align normally in the mouth.
  • Overcrowding may cause tooth decay and increases the likelihood of gum disease.
  • Gaps between teeth: May occur due to missing teeth or a tissue in between teeth that does not allow alignment.
  • Crossbite: This common dental problem may occur when one or multiple teeth bite inside the lower teeth. Uneven wear can lead to bone erosion and gum disease.
  • Overbite: This occurs when the upper teeth project further than the lower teeth. In the future, jaw pain and TMJ issues may occur.
  • Underbite: This problem occurs when the lower teeth project further than the upper teeth. Much like an overbite, jaw pain and TMJ issues may occur in the future.

What advantages does Invisalign® offer compared to traditional braces or veneers?

Clear aligners, metal braces, and veneers are three different ways to correct the alignment of teeth. In order to choose the best option, there are different factors to consider.

Invisalign® trays are fully removable, unlike traditional braces. More commitment and discipline is required from the patient when going this route. The trays are comfortable and invisible therefore wearing them usually is not a problem.

In regard to veneers, Invisalign® actually straightens teeth. Veneers add a cover to a tooth to make the appearance seem straight. Veneers can be costly and may need to be replaced after several years.

What are some considerations when choosing Invisalign® trays?

Aligning trays take a several weeks to get used to. Trays should be worn constantly to achieve the best results, except when eating and drinking. Removing the trays when eating or drinking is important because food particles are prone to becoming trapped in the trays, thus causing tooth decay and cavities. New trays are necessary every two weeks, and also require many dental visits to monitor the movement in teeth.

Invisalign® is a life-changing technology that revolutionizes orthodontics.
