Once your gums have been treated, you will be asked to come back every three or four months for regular maintenance cleanings called periodontal cleanings. At these visits, your gums will be measured and closely monitored. Plaque and calculus will be removed and your oral hygiene practices will be reviewed. It can take a year or two for your gums to stabilize. These maintenance cleanings are very important in achieving health and prevent further damage from gum disease.
