Las Positas Family Dental is a mercury-free practice. As an alternative, we use composite (tooth-colored) fillings to repair a tooth that has been affected by decay, fractures, root exposure, chipped teeth, worn teeth, or closing a gap in between teeth. To treat teeth with such issues, the affected surface of the tooth will be removed then filled with a composite filling.
There are many different types of filling materials available for use. To establish the best option that will suit your needs, you and the dentist and team at Las Positas Family Dental will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each material. A composite filling is one of the most widely used materials to date. Not only are they more aesthetically pleasing because they can be closely matched to existing teeth, but they are also a strong and durable material that may last many years. Composite fillings are also less invasive compared to amalgam, retain more tooth structure, and make early issues easier to detect. Note that these fillings, like all other filling materials, are not permanent and may need to be replaced in the future. Composite fillings are a great option for a beautiful, healthy smile.
